Grassroots Center is committed to mobilise
and empower communities

We believe that by ensuring men, women, youth and people with disabilities in communities have access to credible and accurate information, they will be capable of influence key processes for effective governance outcomes. Grassroots Center equally believes in listening to and engaging with fellow local level changemakers at the community level through the dissemination for effective governance, which manifests in the practical improvements in the social conditions of citizens. Through social audits, community sensitization, grassroots convening, capacity building, advocacy and outreaches, Grassroots Center is committed to mobilise and empower communities to demand effectiveness and efficiency in the use of public resources towards the realization of the common good.

Grassroots Democracy

The Grassroots Center for Rights and Civic Orientation (Grassroots Centre) is committed to active and participatory governance by focusing on grassroots democracy. Our approach is to empower citizens and communities to participate in decision making processes, promoting social justice, and fostering environmental resilience.

One of the key Grassroots Center initiatives to achieving grassroots democracy is Grassroots Innovation, which involves local communities developing innovative solution to address their unique challenges and thus contribute to democratic development.

Our role as an organization is not to take over the participatory roles of the communities, but to galvanize and support them. This we seek to realize by:

• Cultivating Democratic Practice: Entrench democratic practices by reducing apathy and ensuring the involvement of citizens in the decision-making process and promoting participatory governance.

• Supporting wider community democracy: Focusing on issues beyond electoral democracy to the broader issues of governance by promoting transparency, accountability, and social justice.

To support grassroots democracy, the Grassroots Center has identified that it is essential to promote Citizen Participation and Community Engagement. This can be achieved through various means, such as:

• Grassroots Advocacy: Supporting grassroots advocacy groups and civil society organizations to amplify their voices and promote their causes.

• Movement Cultures and Media: Fostering movement cultures and media that promote grassroots politics and social change.

• Citizen Consultation and social audits: Encouraging citizen consultation and participation in decision-making processes to ensure that grassroots voices are heard.

Research And Knowledge Production

Grassroots Center for Rights & Civic Orientation places significant premium and priority on the production of knowledge about the thematic issues were work on before, during and after intervention. From social audits, to evidence-based action research, as well as monitoring evaluation and learning, this Center anchors the validity of its interventions on the quality of knowledge, which drives our programming.

As such, our interventions are shaped by evidence derived from research about key issues and processes at the grassroots. Through a process steeped in data collection and analysis, we undertake exhaustive interrogation to understand and learn to gather accurate information needed to advocate for citizen’s right and amplifying citizen’s voice for informed decision.

We anchor our work around the notion that research and documentation are critical for understanding complex issues, informing advocacy efforts, and shaping evidence-based policies. This Center conduct research to gather data, analyze trends, and identify gaps in existing policies and programs affecting people at the grassroots.

We also ensure the documentation of human rights abuses, social injustices, and other issues to raise awareness and hold perpetrators accountable. Our high-quality research and documentation provide a solid foundation for effective advocacy and program implementation.

Capacity Building

Through robust civic orientation, we build the capacity of citizens and communities to engage key grassroots democratic and governance processes. Through innovative approaches, we galvanize citizens to ensure governance effectively delivers social goods and services.

For us, democracy is not in the ritual of periodic elections. Grassroots democracy is about active participation of the people in all spheres of decision making.

Community Mobilization

Grassroots Center for Rights & Civic Orientation is engaged in community mobilization by empowering and organizing communities to take collective action on issues that affect them. We dedicate our time to work closely with community members to identify their needs, build capacity, and facilitate grassroots initiatives.

This approach fosters a sense of ownership and agency among community members, enabling them to advocate for their rights and drive sustainable development from the ground up.

Service Delivery

Where resources are available, Grassroots Center has the know how to engage in direct service delivery to meet the immediate needs of communities. Under our thematic area of Grassroots Democratic Governance, we leverage the principles of distributive justice to ensure the equitable distribution of resources in the areas of healthcare, education, social services, and humanitarian aid.

In this context, our service delivery is often combined with advocacy efforts to address the root causes of issues and promote long-term solutions. By transparently and equitable delivering essential services, Grassroots Center for Rights & Civic Orientation has worked to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations and build trust within communities.

Networking and Partnerships

Our Center believes strongly that collaboration and partnerships are essential for amplifying the impact of our work in local communities. By building networks and forming alliances with other CSOs, government agencies, international organizations, and the private sector, we believe our Center will be in good stead to leverage resources, share expertise, and coordinate efforts.

Networking and partnerships gives us the leeway to address complex issues more effectively and achieve greater collective impact. Our Center is a member of the Civil Society Network on Migration and Development.

Public Awareness and Education

Grassroots Center for Rights & Civic Orientation is committed to raising public awareness and educating communities about important issues. From climate change to livelihood options to anti-corruption processes, many communities lack the necessary information to make decisions about public life.

Through campaigns, town halls meetings, workshops, seminars, and media engagement, this Center informs and sensitizes the public about social, economic, and environmental issues.

Our public awareness and education efforts help to build a more informed and engaged citizenry, fostering a culture of active participation and social responsibility.
