GRACO Civic Digital Skills Outreach To Boost Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) Turnout
The Grassroots Center for Rights and Civic Orientation (GRACO), in partnership with ByteOasis, will host its maiden Civic Digital Skills Outreach 1.0 on Saturday, September 13, 2025. The citizens sensitisation, which has the objective of raising awareness and boosting turnout for the ongoing CVR will take place at Lilcentral Restaurant & Football Viewing Centre, Gwarinpa. This initiative is designed to mobilise eligible voters to participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which has now been devolved to ward-level centres to enhance accessibility, ahead of the October 18, 2025 deadline for the exercise in the FCT.
The outreach addresses the urgent need to increase voter participation by equipping citizens with the digital tools and knowledge to engage in Nigeria’s electoral process. Attendees will receive practical guidance on how to seamlessly navigate the CVR process, including online pre-registration for first-time voters, transferring polling units, and locating ward-level registration centres in the Gwarimpa Ward axis, such as Government Secondary School (covering Gwarimpa Estate, Gishiri, and Jahi) and LEA Primary School, 3rd Avenue (covering Katampe and MAB Global). The program will also provide training on critical digital skills, such as online fact-checking to combat viral disinformation about key CVR and electoral processes. Also, to address factors constraining the participation of women, the session will share tips on combating gendered disinformation, and ensuring online safety.
Mr. Armsfree Ajanaku, Executive Director of GRACO, emphasized the importance of the event. He said: “The ward-level expansion of voter registration is a significant opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy. We are organising this activity at a football viewing centre as a way of reaching the youth demographic to let them know about the importance of the CVR exercise. We also need them to understand that with the deadline of October 18, 2025 set by INEC FCT for the CVR, those who intend to vote in the FCT Area Council elections in February 2026, must come out and get registered now. This Civic Digital Outreach will provide clear, actionable information to ensure citizens can register and eventually go to participate as voters in elections. GRACO is committed to fostering an informed and engaged electorate.”
To ensure the participation of the wider online community, the event will be live-streamed on Instagram (@GrassrootsCenter), enabling remote participation for those who are not in Gwarinpa. At the event, GRACO will also provide free internet for participants to complete their online pre-registration or polling units transfer.
GRACO’s Civic Digital Skills Outreach is a reflection of the organisation’s commitment to citizens enlightenment in line with its program pillar focusing on information integrity. By combining voter education with digital literacy, the organisation seeks to address barriers to electoral participation and curb misinformation, thereby fostering a more inclusive democratic process.
